Quick Lowdown: This is the only other show I considered for the bottom spot, and it is yet another from the 2013 run. This show gets the edge over Night 3 thanks to the awesome rarities. Too many songs to spell is the Achilles Heel to this show. Being at this show trying to remember what letter they were was almost impossible. I also remember thinking what word starts with GNIH? There are some great moments in this show but overall it just never had the flow to get the highest marks.
Set 1 Recap: Ummm…”Ghost” opener? Yeah that was pretty amazing. Decent “Ghost” taboot. Can you believe I ranked a show with a “Ghost” opener second to last? I am all growns up. From there “Icculus” and “Esther” usher in a major Dick’s party. An EXCELLENT “Stash” is the jamming highlight of set 1. “Limb by Limb” is a fiery version and the Phish debut of “Easy to Slip” is way cool. Anyone else think “Easy to Slip” at Dick’s is kinda funny? Yeah me either…
Set 2 Recap: “Sand>Say Something” is a big highlight. This is one of the better versions of “Sand” and goes pretty deep and kicks some ass. This “Sand” is focused throughout and packs a huge punch. Must hear. “Say Something” is played for the only the second time and as of this recap, the last time. This one jams a bit and looked to foreshadow another Phish jamming vehicle. Nope. From there the lack of flow derails the set from becoming upper tier. It’s not a bad second set it just lacks the magic to move this show higher up the list.
Encore: “Oh! Sweet Nothin'” was awesome. People danced to “Meatstick”.
The Takeaways: “Ghost”, “Icculus”, “Esther”, “Stash”, “Easy to Slip”, “Sand>Say Something”
