7/18/16 BGCA Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the opening notes of  “Sneakin’ Sally,” I immediately get a goofy grin on my face. It’s GO time.

Around 4 minutes into this Sally, we are greeted with a vocal jam that quickly turns into an upbeat funk jam. The boys were pheelin’ it for sure. There’s something special about indoor Phish during the summer… An unusual break from the sweltering summer heat. A place to bring it all together into an enclosed space(ship).

Trey takes over and leads the pack into the jam, slow and steady at first. A few minutes into the jam, Trey decides that he doesn’t want this Sally to get away, and Fishman quickly catches on. Around the 10 minute mark, the band links up and a riff reminiscent of The Rolling Stones’ Jumpin Jack Flash comes to mind (Thank you to @Puffhead, my husband and Phish partner-in-crime for that awesome call).

The band is so locked in, I can’t help but play my air guitar. Piperesque. Now we mean business and it’s time for liftoff into type II-ville. Things are heating up as the band ups the tempo. Trey is a freakin’ JEDI. This is a run-around-in-circles kind of jam. Page catches on and picks up the speed while Trey plays beautifully, launching us into space.

BLAST OFF. WOOOHOOOOOO. FACE MELT. Back into that Jumpin’ Jack-ish raging jam. Trey does not want this to end. He is going to take us to the moon and possibly leave us there for some undetermined amount of time, which is perfectly okay by me.

This.is.why.you.see.Phish.

These moments.

Back into Sally. My face is still on the moon, as Trey intended.

Unfortunately, I was not at this show in the famous Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, however, my brother in-law Zack was there. He claims that this jam was one of the top 3 of the summer 2016 tour, and he followed those Phish dudes around for every show that summer. I am grateful to have been at the BGCA run in summer ‘13, where I was blessed with some stellar jams, as well.

I started seeing Phish in the summer of ‘09 and being 65 shows in, I’m happy to have a phamily who is so dear to my heart, including my 3 year old little rager who absolutely ADORES the P-fish. May we all continue to be blessed with awesome Phish jamz and good times all around. See y’all on terr!
